Fall Classic Game 7 Draws 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning clash that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51M watchers across the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this represents the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable contest drew 27.33M audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match series averaged 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete US viewership reached 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and the network’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 various tongues.
